Through That Which Is Seen
Curated by Alexis Arnold and Lauren Hartman
Exhibition Dates: June 6-23, 2012
OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, June 9, 7-10 pm

Through That Which Is Seenrepresents a range of interpretations of the diorama, on all scales from site-specific installations to small-scale models. From natural history displays to shoebox book reports, the word diorama often conjures memories from childhood. However, dioramas can be found dotted throughout our daily lives. Think about storefront displays, televisions, and medicine cabinets, to name a few. Does a shower become a performative diorama when in use? Or a car? The work in this exhibition highlights the narrative potential of the diorama and the many forms in which they embody.

The adult education course, Diorama, runs in conjunction with this exhibition. Students will explore the diorama and learn a range of sculptural techniques through a variety of projects. Projects include terrarium dioramas and story illustration dioramas in wooden boxes. The course is suitable for all skill levels.  Info and sign-up HERE
