Exhibitions Intern

Root Division events give emerging artists the space and forum to show fresh, inspired and excellent work in a thoughtful and approachable surrounding. Our Exhibitions Intern will work directly with the Exhibitions Coordinator and Installations Manager to make this happen. This individual will gain insight into the curatorial process, as well as knowledge and experience in all aspects of putting together successful exhibitions.

Intern Job Description and Tasks:

  • Public relations, online marketing/ postings, & related outreach
  • Receiving & organizing submissions of artwork for exhibitions
  • Maintaining & updating database of artists/ contacts and related info
  • Support installation & maintenance of exhibitions and compile related presentation materials
  • Art handling and documentation
  • Help setting up/ working at events/exhibitions, including 2nd Saturday events
  • Other general support for events & exhibitions

Desired Qualifications Specific to this Internship:

  • Basic photography, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator skills a plus
  • Comfortable with tasks that involve tidying/organizing the exhibition space & related storage

Desired Availability (10-12 hours/ week):

  • 2 shifts selected from Mondays - Fridays between 11-6
  • Availability for 2nd Saturday exhibition receptions is a plus

Education Intern

Root Division offers art classes to Bay Area adults and youth through its education programs. The Education Intern will work with our Education Coordinator and assist in the implementation of programming. This individual will also gain valuable experience in developing & teaching art curriculum to youth.

Intern Job Description and Tasks:

  • Art curriculum development, lesson planning, and teaching
  • Assisting in the organization and execution of onsite youth arts workshops
  • Organization of onsite exhibitions in the Youth Ed student gallery
  • Documentation of student work
  • Maintaining & updating database of students/ instructors/ contacts & related info
  • Public relations, online marketing/ postings, & related outreach
  • Other general support for education programming

Desired Qualifications Specific to this Internship:

  • Experience/interest working with diverse youth
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
  • Comfortable with tasks that involve tidying/organizing the classroom & related storage

Desired Availability (10-12 hours/ week):

Organizational Intern

Root Division has many facets & serves a multitude of constituents. We are looking for an individual to help strengthen current ties with our local community, while simultaneously developing new relationships. The Organizational Intern will work with the Executive Director & Program Staff on a variety of tasks and projects to help support the organization as a whole. This is a great opportunity to be involved in the inner workings of a small art non-profit.

Intern Job Description and Tasks:

  • Outreach to neighborhood, community, cultural, and arts organizations
  • Research funding/fundraising opportunities
  • Mailing list/contacts management
  • Donor database development/management
  • Help setting up/ working at events/exhibitions, including 2nd Saturday events
  • Assisting with fundraising events & planning
  • Light bookkeeping / data entry in Quickbooks
  • Miscellaneous support for exhibitions & education programming
  • Administrative assistance and file management

Desired Qualifications Specific to this Internship:

  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Previous admin or development support experience a plus

  • 2 shifts selected from Mondays - Fridays between 1-6

Special Events/ Taste 2013 Intern

Root Division hosts a variety of special events, and its spring fundraiser is our TASTE culinary event. The TASTE event features local chefs & mixologists who create artfully inspired edibles onsite in Root Division's gallery & studios. We are looking for an individual to help support this event on all levels, including working with artists, sponsors, staff, and guests. The Special Events Intern will work with the Executive Director and TASTE Planning Committee on a variety of tasks and projects to help support the event as a whole. This is a great opportunity to be involved in the inner workings of fundraising event planning.

Intern Job Description and Tasks:

  • Related PR/ outreach & event sponsor cultivation
  • Attending & participating in TASTE Committee planning meetings (1/month from Jan- April)
  • Help setting up/ working at the TASTE event (Thursday, April 18)

Desired Qualifications Specific to this Internship:

  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Interest / contacts in local food / restaurant industry

Desired Availability (10-12 hours/ week):

  • Combination of days on Mondays - Fridays between 1-6 pm
  • All committee meetings (1 per month from Jan-April, all on weekend evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm)
  • Available to work the day, evening, & week of the event (Thursday, April 18)

Root Division's mission is to improve appreciation and access to the visual arts by connecting personal inspiration and community participation.
