Root Division invites all artists responding to themes of diaspora and exile to submit work for an exhibition entitled Reflections on Exile curated by Jeanette Alanis.

Highlighting challenging elements between human and land separation, Reflections on Exile examines displacement, restrictive or forced movement, and the aftereffects of war and persecution.

Inspired by Edward Said’s description of exile as "the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between the self and its true home”, exhibiting artists offer a creative lens on how exile has personally affected their lives, family, and the world. Reflections on Exile responds to current political changes around separation, borders, and immigration. This exhibition aims to inspire change, ignite activism, heal xenophobia, and strengthen community in order to potentially open borders.
Artists working in all mediums welcome to apply.

Exhibition will take place January 8 - February 8, 2020.
