SU 2018 – Papel Picado

Papel Picado

This class will start with the introduction of the indigenous mesoamerican craft of papel picado, we will concentrate on the concept of negative and positive space, the cutting of paper with X-acto knife, and the variations of paper including it's properties of weight and texture. This class will move into the manipulation of paper to create 3D sculptural work and wearable designs. We will discuss methods of creating movement vs rigid structure through intense methods of paper manipulation.
