Root Division offers art classes to Bay Area adults and youth through its education programs. The Education Intern will work with our Education Programs Manager and assist in the implementation of programming. This individual will also gain valuable experience in developing and teaching art curriculum to youth.

General Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude and interest in learning
  • Works well independently and with a team
  • Good communication skills (written and oral)
  • Familiarity with Mac computers
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Basic administrative skills

Intern Job Description and Tasks:

  • Art curriculum development, lesson planning, and teaching
  • Assisting in the organization and execution of onsite youth arts workshops
  • Organization of onsite exhibitions in the Youth Ed student gallery
  • Documentation of student work
  • Maintaining and updating database of students / instructors / contacts and related info
  • Public relations, online marketing / postings, and related outreach
  • Other general support for education programming

Desired Qualifications Specific to this Internship:

  • Experience / interest working with diverse youth
  • Bilingual (Spanish / English) a plus
  • Comfortable with tasks that involve tidying / organizing the classroom and related storage

Desired Availability (10-12 hours / week):

  • 1 - 2 shifts selected from Mondays - Fridays, between 11 AM - 6 PM
  • Exhibition opening support (each 2nd Saturday evening / month)
