Facilities & Installations Manager

The Facilities & Installations Manager oversees and manages all aspects of creating and maintaining a safe, accessible, inclusive, and productive space for the organization and its operations. Root Division staff and its core volunteers operate as a team, interacting with each other often, so that the organization provides a unified schedule of creative learning opportunities and experiences for artists and the greater community. This role offers an exciting opportunity for someone motivated to work and learn in a unique and dynamic non-profit arts environment.*

* Due to the Shelter-in-Place mandate, some staff is continuing to work remotely. This role is primarily at the facility and will be integral in supporting a phased and safe re-opening effort.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain general cleanliness and safety of Root Division’s space and surroundings, including galleries, classrooms, offices, woodshop, digital lab, storage areas, hallways, stairways, emergency exits, entryways, parking area, and adjacent sidewalks.
• Help to recruit, train, & manage Root Division Studio Artists, interns, volunteers, and to hire contractors for facilities and installation tasks; Manage and track hours and related budgets; Finish tasks not completed by volunteer artists or hired contractors.
• Communicate and enforce guidelines for space use and safety information in regards to doors/security, lighting, woodshop, and use of equipment & tools. Collect, file, & maintain MSDS information.
• Oversee installation of Root Division’s exhibitions, including managing volunteers and contractors for wall preparation, receiving & unpacking work, installation, lighting, de-installation, and packaging of artwork according to best art handling practices.
• Oversee use, installation, de-installation, & proper storage of tools, supplies, lighting, and AV equipment (projectors, media players, monitors, etc.)
• Train and support artists in the safe & proper use of tools & equipment.
• Forecast and organize special projects (new walls, shelving, storage, etc.)
• Support 2nd Saturday, fundraising events (TASTE/ Art Auction), donor events, and programs in facility-related tasks.
• Staff and oversee for venue rentals or related uses of Root Division’s space.
• Act as primary emergency contact for any facilities-related issues (flooding, fire alarm, etc)
• Work with Executive Director, board, and other staff to maintain a positive, efficient work environment


COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT: Overall support in sustaining a thriving, dynamic organization

• Serve as an advocate of Root Division’s mission by acting as an ambassador to artists, students, supporters, donors, sponsors, neighbors, and other organizational contacts.
• Support thriving Studios Program via participation in monthly All Artist Meetings and oversight of service hours and policies; Support on-boarding process for new artists, interns/volunteers, and fellows
• Participate in professional development and related trainings as needed.
• Miscellaneous program support including reception, meeting prep/ set-up, and errands.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:
• 2 years of related work experience in facilities, installations, space management, or related work
• Proven skills in site coordination and/ or management of teams
• Working knowledge of general tools and equipment
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs and interests of artists and a diverse audience

Preferred:
• Strong communication skills with a sensitivity to support a variety of personalities and needs
• 2 years of managing volunteers/ staff in facilities, art space, or related field
• Experience/ skills working with power tools (chop saw, table saw, hand sanders, cordless drills) & related safety guidelines
• Working knowledge of G Suite (Google docs & spreadsheets) and Dropbox
• Valid Driver’s License

Beneficial:
• Extensive experience in facilities management, construction, art handling, preparator work, or related field
• Advanced building skills; Able to regularly lift 25+ lbs
• Working knowledge of advanced technology/ creative tools (3D printer, large format photo printer, etc.)
• Extensive volunteer/ staff management
• NERT Certification and/or training in de-escalation strategies and techniques
• Bi-lingual in English/ Spanish and/or Tagalog
• Access to a vehicle or other reliable transportation for errands and offsite tasks

• Shows personal initiative and ability to work as a member of a team in a creative, fast-paced environment
• Has a strong proven record for the ability to meet deadlines, being organized, and being detail-oriented
• Has an overall positive attitude and ability to work with various constituencies of all ages & from a wide variety of backgrounds, including students, artists, curators, visitors, neighbors, and supporters of the organization

This is a FULL TIME position, which includes hours onsite M-FR as well as occasional evenings and weekends, including 2nd Saturdays and fundraising/ special events. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes wage (range: $24-$28/hr), paid time off, health plan coverage/ related HSA contribution, and access to free art classes and professional development workshops. Additional benefit of free artist studio workspace is negotiable as interested.
