With Open Eyes

Root Division invites artists working in all media to submit work for With Open Eyes, to be presented at Root Division in July-August 2024.

With Open Eyes is a group exhibition that utilizes Afrofuturism through positive depictions of Black culture and life, thus disrupting racial stereotypes. Through their exhibited works, the artists will redefine notions of Blackness and utopia by creating counternarratives of desire and relief. By rejecting oppressive perceptions that are often entangled in Black identity, the exhibition provides a contemporary visual understanding of the need to have inclusion, liberation, and equality. The diverse array of works, ranging from installation, photography, painting, and video, exemplifies the importance of exploring Blackness, which is candid and complex, in all aspects.

With Open Eyes is curated by Adrianne Ramsey.

This open call invites artist to submit work in line with the above theme to be considered alongside confirmed artists, who include:
Cash Cooper, Ashara Ekundayo, Eniola Fakile, Nicole Henton, Gbenga Komolafe, Maya June Mansour, Lola Ogbara, Raymond Pinto, Adee Roberson, Michon Sanders, and Fulton Leroy Washington (MR. WASH)
