COMMUNICATIONS & DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The Communications & Development Manager creates and oversees all marketing and communication for the organization, programs, and development efforts. Root Division staff and its core volunteers operate as a team, interacting with each other often, so that the organization provides a unified schedule of creative learning opportunities and experiences for artists and the greater community. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages Root Division’s communications & supports development functions

  • Manage Root Division’s brand through content creation as well as outsourcing and overseeing designers and other contractors; Support design projects including event collateral and publications
  • Collaborate with staff, board, and Development Committee to develop overall marketing strategy
  • Manage website (WordPress) and email marketing content (CIVI Mail CRM-based mail program
  • Coordinate and implement digital marketing strategy for the organization, programs, and fundraising efforts/ campaigns including for emails, social media, and other promotional channels
  • Create and execute planned, real time, paid and organic content including for programming, events, recruitment, fundraising efforts, and general maintenance of brand voice through oversight of social channels
  • Create and coordinate online advertising, including paid, trade, and in-kind outlets (i.e Google AdWords, Facebook ads, cross promo trades, etc.)
  • Analyze and track the success of marketing campaigns, social media strategies, and advertising
  • Help coordinate and support major fundraising events (TASTE/Art Auction), donor events, and related tasks including outreach, data management, correspondence, and logistics
  • Support additional communications including drafting and copy editing content for media, committee correspondence, newsletters, and requests for info
  • Work in close coordination and collaboration with Executive Director and other staff to support miscellaneous development efforts and related promotional materials/signage

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:

Supports outreach and related relationship cultivation

  • Participate in Root Division events on and offsite to represent and promote the organization
  • Serve as an advocate of Root Division’s mission to artists, participants, sponsors, donors, and funders
  • Form and maintain partnerships with peer organizations, donors, and related database of contacts
  • Support fundraising activities (i.e. funder/donor cultivation, sponsor solicitation, etc)
  • Support outreach efforts and marketing of all programs; represent Root Division to the public

ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:

Overall support in sustaining a thriving, dynamic organization

  • Support thriving Studios Program via All Artist Meetings and related coordination and correspondence
  • Recruit, train, and supervise interns and volunteers for communications and development needs
  • Work with staff and board in contributing input and feedback for organizational strategic planning
  • Opportunity to participate on RD’s DEI Advisory Committee of Board, Staff, and Studio Artists
  • Participate in professional development and related trainings as needed.
  • Miscellaneous support including reception, phone, office/ facility upkeep, and errands.

* While much of this role can be done remotely, some tasks are based at Root Division’s facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree (or 2 years of equivalent/ related work experience)
  • 2 years of  work experience and proven skills in communications, marketing, development/ outreach
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs and interests of artists and a diverse audience

Preferred

  • Work or academic history in non-profit/ arts administration/ communications or arts related field
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of local and global events in relation to RD’s mission
  • Strong computer skills, including managing content in Google Drive, Dropbox, and social media channels
  • Experience using Google WorkSpace (Google docs & spreadsheets) 
  • Working knowledge of design software (Adobe CS) and WordPress

Beneficial

  • Database experience, specifically with CIVI CRM
  • Basic skills for photo documentation, editing, and/or graphic design
  • Grant writing / fundraising/ media relations experience
  • Experience with Google AdWords and/or social media ad campaigns

APPLICATION

This is a FULL TIME position, which includes hours M-FR as well as occasional evenings and weekends, including 2nd Saturdays and fundraising/ special events. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes base salary (range: $60,000-$65,000), paid time off, health plan coverage/ related HSA contribution, and access to free art classes and professional development workshops.
