Bio
Netanya Buenrostro is a contemporary Latina painter based in Oakland, CA. Working primarily with acrylic and cultural textiles, her work represents the Latino community. Buenrostro earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California College of the Arts. Her work has been presented in several Bay Area exhibitions, including Mother Call Me at the Bass and Reiner Gallery in San Francisco in 2025. She also recently showed her work in So Over So Back, a group exhibition, at the SFArtsEd Gallery at Minnesota Street Project.
Netanya Buenrostro is an emerging artist who creates work inspired by the Fruitvale community in Oakland, and her family’s roots in Mexico and Guatemala. Through acrylics and sarape fabric, she honors everyday workers and everyday life. Using traditional sarape fabric as her canvas, she paints in thick layered colors to represent her culture. Alongside the sarape pieces, she shares stories of her family history through collage paintings.
