Build A Chair: Material + Methods

This one-day studio workshop at Root Division (1131 Mission St.) explores the concept of Italian Designer Enzo Mari 1974 published work in Autoprogetazione, a manual of furniture designs that anyone could build using simple tools and materials. The goal was not just to make objects, but to understand how they work, treating design as something learned through doing. In the spirit of this idea, this workshop approaches making as an accessible and shared process. 

During the workshop, participants will build a crate chair, or stool using mostly pre-cut components and straightforward construction methods.  There will also be a time to customize each piece through sanding, staining, or finishing, allowing each object to reflect the person who made it.  Participants will leave with a functional piece of furniture you built yourself. No prior experience required,  All supplies will be included in the course fee.
