This course focuses on a variety of collage and monoprint/type techniques, their applications, and the conceptual implications of the generation of new work through appropriated images. Projects investigate the editorial hand, in which the artist's voice emerges through the manipulation of the marks of others, through the lens of the musical genres of the remix, the mash-up, the cover, and the sample. Demonstrations cover acrylic media and blending marker transfer, stencil-making, and other collage techniques. Students are encouraged to explore the formal and conceptual possibilities opened by these techniques, and apply them to their own artistic interests.
