Introduction to Silverpoint
In this one day workshop, students will be given an introduction to the Renaissance-era medium of silverpoint, which originally fell out of widespread use with the invention of graphite. Seldom used now, silverpoint offers a beautiful, extremely precise line with a sheen that oxidizes over time, creating a luminous mark that is unlike any other medium. Students will be exposed to a brief history of silverpoint, craft their own silverpoint stylus, then will create a small drawing based off of historical examples of this medium on a variety of substrates.
