SU 2019 – Contemporary Comics

Venue: 1131 Mission Street

Contemporary Comics

This course encourages investigation of the relationships between images, text, story, and the comic book as an art object. In four weeks, students will create three mini comics and study many examples of contemporary comics. Group critiques, analysis of narrative structures, and exercises in juxtaposing imagery will give students a deeper understanding of how to use drawings to communicate stories and ideas. A materials list will be provided upon registration.

COVID UPDATE

In response to the current COVID-19 situation, we require that all persons continue to wear masks at all times when in the Root Division space. For the safety of our students, artists, and extended community, we also require all students to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination (or same-day negative test results) for entry to classes held indoors at Root Division.

You may bring a physical copy of your vaccination card or via digital download through the State of California Digital Vaccine Record Portal here. (You may also provide a negative test result taken before each class session. Please contact us with any questions about the types of test results accepted.)

We ask this as a show of community care and a move towards continued safety while gathering in-person.
