OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS:

MFA NOW 2015: ARCHIVE PROJECT & JURIED EXHIBITION

SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED: Monday, January 12, 2015 at 11:59 pm

Exhibition dates: March 11 - 28, 2015

According to the US News and World Report survey, the Bay Area is home to seven of the top one hundred MFA Programs in Visual Arts in the country: California College of the Arts, Mills College, San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco State University, San Jose State University, Stanford University, and the University of California, Berkeley.

The MFA Now Archive Project, and Juried Exhibition was created to provide a platform for looking at Bay Area artists and institutions in order to promote dialogue and to archive current art-making practices and models.

MFA Now 2015 will be the fourth iteration of this annual project at Root Division. The concept for MFA Now was originally conceived by Claire Colette and Kari Marboe in 2011. The two artists, who were, at the time, in MFA programs at Mills and UC Berkeley respectively, saw a need for dialogue between programs, and they created this opportunity for connection.

As the nature of interdisciplinary fields of visual production continue to emerge, this year, we are opening up the call for artists to MFA Candidates in tradition “Fine Art” programs, as well as students of Film/Cinema, Design & Technology, Conceptual & Information Arts and Social Practice.

ABOUT THE MFA NOW 2015 ARCHIVE PROJECT: The MFA Now 2015 Archive, is an inclusionary publication of all eligible MFA candidates, set to be released in February 2015. All artists who submit to MFA NOW 2015 will be featured in this archive. The book includes a full page dedicated to each contributing MFA candidate and a compilation of essays by faculty, Root Division staff, and the exhibition juror, serving to navigate the contemporary moment in Bay Area MFA programs and find connections between the artists and institutions.
