TASTE is an annual exhibit about food & food-related ideas that focuses on a different theme each year. This year’s theme highlights the humor and romance of our everyday encounters with food and includes 16 artists representing drawing, painting, photography, collage, sculpture, video, & installation.
This exhibition invites us to re-examine our day-to-day relationship with food-- meals eaten out of convenience, supermarket runs, or the times we find ourselves eating alone. These routine meals and the rituals associated with them, though not always filled with nutrients, are rich with meaning. These artists find vitality in our everyday meals; from homemade breads to hot dogs; from peeling vegetables to failed Cuban cafecitos; from twist ties to milk cans. Whether a meal is eaten alone at a taco cart, or with friends and family around the dinner table, there is splendor in our most banal encounters with food.
In addition to the opening reception on April 9, and in conjunction with this exhibition, Root Division is hosting a ticketed event, TASTE 2011, on Thursday, April 14. This event features a dozen of the most creative local chefs & mixologists preparing food & cocktails onsite in our gallery.
