Raphael Noz explores the clash of mixing identies through his Mexican heritage and the performance persona Cortezuma. He questions the finished object and sees art making and performance as a way to make other things happen, a way to conjure things into being. Pieces are often on-going, growing, or lead to other pieces. Performances lead to paintings as documentation, or are recreated through 3D photo reels. Raphael Noz grew up in Los Angeles and has lived in Florence Italy and Berlin Germany. He holds a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the California College of the Arts, and his exhibitions include work at institutions in Massachusetts, Germany, The San Diego Museum of Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
