Courtney Griffith is an artist and educator based in Oakland, CA, currently pursuing an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at Mills College. She is interested in using destruction as a creative tool. Destruction and loss often pave the way for regeneration, and when loss is closely examined we find that nothing is ever truly lost but transformed. Griffith's artwork is about accepting this reality in its entirety, in both its moments of gutting pain and cyclic connection.
Griffith is primarily interested in exploring the concept of ephemerality. through images of decomposition and the use of natural dyes, handmade paints, and canvases. Her most recent work attempts to deconstruct archival painting traditions through the lens of ephemerality and sustainability.
