Bio
Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo is a visual artist, poet, and facilitator. Her artwork has been exhibited across the United States. She has received an Honorable Mention from the Santa Clara Cultural Commission and Triton Museum of Art. Elizabeth earned a BFA in Pictorial Art and a BA in French from San José State University. Her solo shows have been featured at SJSU, the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, La Peña Cultural Center, and Centro de Artes Gallery (2022).
My artwork celebrates heritage, culture, and identity as a means of community empowerment. The iconography of my artwork is influenced by Mexika (Aztec) culture, Nahuatl picture-writing, and ancestral Indigenous concepts. I have participated in traditional ceremonial dance from Mexika dance circles, completed an intensive course in classical Nahuatl, and studied the glyphs found in Mesoamerican hand-painted books. This inspired my acrylic on wood series, Transformación, and my oil painting series of Mexika dancers, The Euphoric Dance of the Unconquered Mind.
