Bio
Mariel Paat is a San Francisco based Visual Artist and Educator from Visalia, CA. She received her BA in studio art and art history with an emphasis in painting from San Francisco State University. Her paintings highlight the beauty and experiences of her loved ones and her Filipino upbringing.
Artist Statement
"My oil paintings are explorations of my identity as a first generation Filipina-American. My work combines portraits and figures of loved ones, sentimental settings, and objects to preserve my family’s narratives and dissect our diasporic experience. The figures in my paintings call for a sense of belonging, visibility, and a connection with the Filipino community."
