Bio
Jonell Elise Aban (she/they) is a visual artist born and based on Ramaytush Ohlone Land, also known as San Francisco. She works in various mediums such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, textiles and mixed-media. Much of their work centers around the decolonization and reclaiming of identity, culture, fashion, gender, and spirituality.
Artist Statement
My work is rooted in exploring the intersectionality of cultural identity that is informed by ancestral imagery, traditional materials, and ideas from my Filipinx heritage. Much of my works are introspective, centering around the exploration, reclamation, and decolonization of identity, culture, fashion, storytelling, gender, sexuality, and spirituality.
