CREATIVE FUTURES FELLOWSHIP
Root Division’s Creative Futures Fellowship is designed not only to introduce public high school students across San Francisco to creative careers, but to provide a transformative experience in which they develop confidence, cultivate their voices, and learn how to articulate who they are—both as artists and as individuals. Artist Fellows, Studio Artists, and visiting artists teach, mentor, and provide free, high-quality arts mentorship to Bay Area teen artist fellows throughout the school year and summer. The teens gain valuable experience teaching in the local community and work with adult mentors in the art-making process; they learn about contemporary art practices, creative careers, and professional pathways through direct engagement with working artists. Through sustained engagement with working artists, students will gain the skills to present themselves, their ideas, and their work in ways that will serve them far beyond the program, in both their personal lives and future careers. Both the school year and summer
Fellows present their work in a professional exhibition at Root Division. The program concludes with a public reception attended by families, educators, and community members.
