CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: The Art of Sharing: food, knowledge, stories, space (working title)

Root Division invites artists working in all media to submit work for The Art of Sharing: food, knowledge, stories, space (working title), to be presented at Root Division in Spring 2024.

Presented in conjunction with TASTE, Root Division’s annual culinary event, The Art of Sharing: food, knowledge, stories, space (working title), examines the intimate act of preparing and sharing food with others, and the rituals, traditions, and conversations that accompany it.

Across time, culture, and geographical location, the act of preparing and sharing food and drink with others is a universal phenomenon that creates many opportunities for connection. From learning a cultural recipe from a relative and conversations about politics that occur at the dinner table, to the physical act of sharing a meal, this exhibition invites artists to reflect on sharing food and its connections to culture, politics, community, knowledge-sharing, history, tradition, ritual, ceremony, resilience, resistance, and related topics. Applicants are welcome to interpret the theme in a metaphorical and/or literal sense.

Priority Deadline: Monday, January 15, 2024, 11:59 pm

Exhibition dates: March 27 – April 18, 2024
2nd Saturday Opening Reception: April 13, 2024
