MADE IN THE BAY:

ART + DESIGN OPEN CALL

Root Division invites high school students from across the nine-county Bay Area to submit artwork for MADE IN THE BAY, a youth-centered exhibition celebrating the creativity, perspectives, and ideas of the next generation of Bay Area artists and designers.

DEADLINE: Monday, November 30 at 11:59 pm

Exhibition Dates: January 9 – February 20, 2027

What are young artists making right now? What ideas, experiences, questions, and aesthetics are shaping their work?

MADE IN THE BAY brings together artwork from high school students across the region, creating an opportunity for young people to share their work with one another and with the broader Bay Area arts community.

There is no required theme. We welcome work exploring any subject matter and encourage submissions across artistic disciplines, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, textiles, fashion, illustration, graphic design, digital art, and other forms of visual art and design.

Submissions will be reviewed by a youth jury, with participating student jurors from Lick-Wilmerding High School. Selected works will be exhibited in Root Division’s Main Gallery in San Francisco from January 9 through February 20, 2027.

Eligibility

The open call is free and open to students currently enrolled in a high school within one of the Bay Area’s nine counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.

Artists may submit up to two artworks for consideration. Individual and collaborative works are welcome.

Art Sales

Artists may choose to make their work available for sale during the exhibition. For works that sell, 60% of the sale price will be paid to the artist and 40% will support Root Division’s programs.
