Cerys Rotondo is a San Francisco-based painter and multidisciplinary artist whose surrealist works explore personal identity, grief, and the psychological weight of socioeconomic mobility.
As a self-taught artist and first-generation Filipina, Rotondo synthesizes her background in documentary photography with an academic foundation in Political Science and Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley. Her paintings serve as a visual extension of these fields, mapping how systemic structures intersect with intimate human emotion.
Utilizing her evolving practice to translate complex cultural navigations into evocative, surrealist landscapes, Rotondo actively explores both her personal and practical intersections to make sense of the complexities. She currently seeks to build her painting portfolio to further her education in Fine Arts.
My work translates the human experiences and emotions that are difficult to put into words into symbolic landscapes. By merging documentary photography and portraiture with personal journal entries, I capture visuals from the mundane day-to-day to explore the complex relationship with the self and others. I seek to transform everyday realities into dreamlike, evocative spaces with the ultimate hope of bringing people together through shared vulnerability.
