Nathalie O’Brien was born in San Francisco, CA in 1997. She is a figurative painter based in the Bay Area. She received a BA with a concentration in Studio Art from San Francisco State University in 2020.
My work concentrates on identity in relation to race and gender, as well as living spaces and adornment. In my paintings, I depict my subjects surrounded by warm, vibrant colors to reflect self care and safe spaces. The medium I primarily work with is acrylic paint. My paintings are created on canvas or paper and they vary in size. My process includes creating collages as a preliminary sketch and using them as a reference for my paintings. These collages are made from gathering imagery from magazines and scrap fabric.
