Nibha Akireddy is a San Francisco based artist from Santa Clara, CA. She creates figurative oil paintings inspired by community, storytelling, and everyday art forms.
Nibha Akireddy is interested in questioning the labels imposed on diasporic art and artists. She aims to create work that is tactile and human, work that makes the viewer feel the way the subject moves through space. She most enjoys interacting with everyday art through food, dance, movies, music, conversation, relationships, and oftentimes through people who may not call themselves artists. Her art is inspired by stories and by embracing specificity -- the way incomparable individual stories and experiences can evoke familiarity from so many people with disparate experiences. She is currently working on concurrent series’ inspired by South Asian samples in hip-hop, tradition/meditation through sport, and traditional tattooing in South and Southeast Asia. Her art is, at its core, a medium she uses to journal her everyday life and interactions while expressing gratitude towards the people who push her to see the world in new ways.
