The Working Artist Lab with Svea Lin Soll

This three-part professional development series supports artists in strengthening their professional foundation, clarifying their pathways, and building sustainable momentum in their practice.

OVERVIEW

  • In collaboration with ArtSpan, this three-part professional development series taught by Svea Lin Soll supports artists in strengthening their professional foundation, clarifying their pathways, and building sustainable momentum in their practice.
  • Each workshop is paired with a follow-up drop-in support session to deepen learning, provide individualized support, and build accountability.
  •  All sessions take place on Tuesdays via Zoom.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Equip artists with strong professional materials (pricing, statement, bio, audience).
  • Give artists clarity on their “fit” and opportunities available to them.
  • Support artists in developing a confident voice when presenting their practice.
  • Offer ongoing touchpoints to help them apply the material, reduce overwhelm, and stay accountable.

Workshop 1 — Artwork Pricing Workshop: Tuesday, March 3, 6:30–7:45pm

  • Pricing artwork is one of the most challenging and emotionally charged aspects of an artist's practice.
  • This workshop demystifies pricing by introducing practical frameworks that balance market context, sustainability, and artistic integrity. Artists will learn how to evaluate their pricing in relation to materials, labor, experience, exhibition context, and long-term career goals.
  • We’ll address common fears around money, underpricing, and confidence, and build clear strategies for setting and communicating prices.

Drop-In Support Session 1: Tuesday, March 10, 6:30–7:30 pm

  • Open coaching and Q&A for artists to review pricing scenarios, troubleshoot challenges, and receive personalized guidance and accountability.

Workshop 2 — Writing Your Artist Statement + Bio: Tuesday, March 24, 6:30–7:45 pm

  •  A clear, compelling artist statement and bio underpin every opportunity — from exhibitions and grants to studio visits and press.
  • This workshop breaks these texts into approachable parts, helping artists articulate their ideas, materials, and motivations in language that feels authentic, legible, and professional.
  • Participants will identify their core themes and strengthen how they communicate their work to different audiences.

Drop-In Support Session 2: Tuesday, March 31, 6:30–7:30 pm

  • Small-group coaching to refine drafts, address writing resistance, and finalize strong working versions of statements and bios.

Workshop 3 — Finding Your Place + Audience: Tuesday, April 7, 6:30–7:45 pm

  • This workshop helps artists locate their work within the broader ecosystem and clarify who their work is for.
  • We’ll explore both commercial and non-commercial pathways — including galleries, academia, institutions, nonprofits, activism, and interdisciplinary contexts — so artists can align their outreach with their values and goals.
  • Artists will map potential audiences, opportunities, and next steps that feel sustainable and authentic rather than purely market-driven.

Drop-In Support Session 3: Tuesday, April 14, 6:30–7:30 pm

  • Follow-up coaching focused on opportunity mapping, outreach questions, and accountability for next actions.
