This six-session in-person workshop is a fast-paced introductory course to photography through moving portraiture, no prior experience necessary. Each session a new compositional concept will be introduced and explored: from obstruction and leading lines to the rule of thirds and color theory. There will be open shooting with a model where students can explore capturing as they please. Students will be introduced to the camera – shutter, aperture, ISO and white balance – and talk about how these affect your photography whether you’re in a phone or professional DSLR. The subject of the photography study is to create Moving Portraits by integrating dance as the main notion – giving students the chance to learn how to direct and capture movement, character and story. Bring whichever camera you have available, whether is a professional DSLR, film camera or your phone camera. All other materials will be provided by Root Division. Please note: This class will occur in person at Root Division, located at 1131 Mission Street in SF.
