Digital Illustration Workshop
This course will use the computer as a medium for illustration. Students will learn the basics of Adobe Illustrator and how to apply these basics to their own unique projects. Goals of this course include gaining a basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, developing computer tools to better execute stylized illustrations, and a general understanding of the history or illustration and its uses in contemporary settings. An outcome of this course will include a series of spot illustrations specific to individual student’s subjects and styles. These outcomes will reflect skills in concept, creativity, and branding. The first class meeting will focus on how illustration has developed as a tool for communication and what direction it is going towards in the future. After the first class meeting, students will need a laptop with Adobe Illustrator downloaded on it. There are free trials available on the Adobe website that last 2 weeks. The second and third class sessions will focus on learning the basics of Adobe Illustrator and creating the spot illustrations.
