Bay Area Digitalists

Venue: 1131 Mission Street

Bay Area Digitalists is a group exhibition highlighting digital artists whose work is inspired by the deep history and culture of technology in the Bay Area.

From the hand-built computers of the Homebrew Computer Club that eventually launched Apple Computers, to the personal ads and resource-sharing of Craigslist, to the pink mustachioed ride-share of Lyft, the SF/Bay Area has been an incubator for creative uses of technology.

Within new media art, the Bay Area Digitalist's work embodies the particular characteristics of Bay Area tech: entrepreneurship, experimentation, invention, access, and a DIY sensibility. Based in the Bay Area, artists in the exhibition employ a variety of tools and outputs to explore the very nature of the technologies used and their impact on society, interaction, and daily life.
