Venue: 1131 Mission Street
Root Division invites artists who make art about or in collaboration with family members to submit work to our upcoming online exhibition, Family Matters. This exhibition will be presented by Root Division in a variety of virtual formats in June 2020.
Being Sheltered in Place brings about an interest in viewing our private spaces and intimate relationships. Family Matters is an invitation to think about these times as nesting times — as times to attend to family (chosen or biological), to take care of our immediate surroundings, and to create and commune despite geographical distance. There is time to learn, improve, and nurture our relationships; be whimsical with our kids at home, write letters to loved ones, and be more attentive to grandparents as well as face new and pre-existing conflict and hardship. “Matter” is both a concern of great importance, as well as the physical substance which occupies one’s space. What is your family matter?
Work submitted should demonstrate family relation or creative collaboration, but does not necessarily need to be done during quarantine.
This is an international call open to all mediums that can be presented online. Some examples include: videos, live/online performances, sound files, audio tracks, downloadable PDF books, as well as documentation of 2-D and 3-D works.
