Venue: 1131 Mission Street
Drawing 101 A
In this class, students learn to explore the expressive nature of drawing. Subject matter may include object study, still life, interior space, self-portrait and the figure. Different materials (charcoal, graphite, ink, collage) and formal concepts (value, line quality, mark-making) are explored. Critical thinking skills will be developed through class critiques, and students will walk away with an appreciation for the process of discovery through drawing. For this class you will need a drawing/sketching notebook with quality paper (preferably larger than 8.5 X 11"), an 18” x 24” newsprint drawing paper pad, pencils of varying hardness (4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B), compressed and vine charcoal (soft and hard), a kneaded eraser, and a white rubber eraser. Your instructor may request additional materials upon enrollment.
