Lettering and Typography Workshop
In this one day workshop, students will explore lettering and typography through a wide assortment of hands on approaches. Beginning with letters sourced from popular magazines, newspaper clippings, consumer packaging and typography specimen-catalogues, students will springboard from these materials to hand alter and create new designs. In this class we will explore cut and paste methods in conjunction with drawing, brush lettering and pen techniques to create individualized and expressive letter-forms. Think of punk rock flyers, 1980’s zines, DIY lettering, Dada collage and a dash of sign painter script as our inspirational aesthetic. * Please bring in hard copy materials to class (popular magazines, vintage magazines, newspaper clippings, consumer packaging, everything and anything.) If you find it online print it out on an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper. Choose letter-forms that you find visually interesting or inspirational.
