Intro to Textiles
In this 6-week course, students are introduced to material research through the exploration of textile construction methods. Applications of embroidery, weaving, and soft basketry are investigated to develop a familiarity with the tactility of thread and its potential for the exploitation of both representational and abstract imagery. Students will create a variety of samples, one project per construction module, and will complete the course with a foundational understanding of thread-based practices. For this course, students will need an embroidery hoop and a small frame loom (no smaller than 8” x 10”or 10” x 10”). Your instructor may request additional materials upon enrollment.
