Assembled Cities

The Frank Ratchye Project Space is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Root Division studio artist Shrey Purohit.

“A cable car turn caught in fog, a ferry crossing at the exact minute the sky goes orange, a transit platform where someone’s ancestral memory and someone else’s daily commute happen to occupy the same frame.”
Shrey Purohit

Piecing together moments from the artist’s own passage from Mumbai to San Francisco, Assembled Cities transforms urban landscapes into overlapping lived moments and shared experiences. Purohit’s paintings create a narrative where familiar San Francisco streets, neighborhoods, and people coexist with personal heritage and perspectives of Mumbai. Depicting these cities in the ways they are lived, the artist goes beyond the depiction of cityscapes and continuous skylines through layers of collage-like memories, histories, and everyday life. This exhibition invites viewers to see cities not only shaped by buildings and architecture, but as something constantly in the making by the people who inhabit and move through it.
