RAQUEL
RAQUEL
The Frank-Ratchye Project Space presents SAGRADO by Root Division Studio Artist RAQUEL (she/her).
In this series RAQUEL intends to celebrate individual experience, good and bad, as a way of challenging the media’s myth of self-identity and authenticity. It is meant to invite the audience to focus less on facticity and more on the changes, details, emotions, and people that have moved their lives forward, to define a sense of self. Each piece is a psychological landscape of experience: hair holds memories, history, & secrets, but also works as a space of comfort, tenderness, and familiarity. The physical body changing and colliding with other bodies and nature holding space without judgment. These paintings are an homage to her personal experiences and how they have and continue to be of influence. With this series she asks you to remember, and to hold those memories sacred, keep oral tradition alive and ultimately see the ‘self’ as dynamic
